The calculator multiplies your buy-in by the tried-and-tested buy-in guideline for that format and risk level. The output is a bankroll that soaks up an ordinary downswing without busting you or forcing a move down at the worst possible moment.
바이인 가이드라인Buy-in guidelines

Cash games carry the least variance: around 20 buy-ins on a 100bb stack (aggressive), 30 (standard), 50 (conservative). Sit & Gos bounce around more: roughly 30 / 50 / 100 buy-ins. MTTs are the wildest, with the prize pool bunched at the final table: about 50 / 100 / 200+ buy-ins. These are widely-taught baselines, not laws — tune them to your win rate and how tough the fields are.

A bankroll won't turn you into a winner. What it does is keep a winning player from going broke during the downswings that even they cannot dodge. The larger your edge and the lower your variance, the fewer buy-ins you need — but nobody escapes variance entirely. The heart of the buy-in rule is having clear triggers. Once your roll clears the next stake's requirement and you're beating your current game, take a shot. When a downswing drags you under the requirement for your present stake, drop down without ego — that discipline is what keeps you playing. An aggressive roll climbs faster but trips the move-down trigger more often, while a conservative roll rarely trips it at all.
